As I was going through one of my drawers looking for a leather tool, and came across a knife I had purchased years ago. It is just a simple small skinning knife but I thought it was way too nice for the cheesy sheath that came with it,so this is my attempt to give it the covering it deserved.
I started out with a piece of 6-7oz leather, any heavier would have just overwelmed the small blade. Then I made a template out of some mat board(having an Artist wife it is always in good supply)because it is heavier than poster board and holds its shape much longer. I always made a template
because you never know when someone will bring in the exact same blade and you actually save leather. I lay the template on the leather until I get the best cut with the smallest amount of waste. If you are independently wealthy and have an endless supply of leather this may not be important to you.I then cut out the leather spacer to fit the blade tight, and used my new extra small basket weave stamp to give it the finishing touch. The color is British tan, it matched the handle perfectly.
