My leather memories go back to my early childhood. I was raised in the outskirts of Birmingham, Alabama, where we had several acres of land to raise milk and beef cattle. Our trips to town for feed were big events, because the general mercantile also had a saddle and tack shop, where I spent most of my time. The smell of the leather was, and still is intoxicating to me. As I grew and got envolved with the Boy Scouts, I was introduced to simple leather projects, but even then, I was trying to improve on the designs to fit myself. It was not until later, after moving to Pensacola, Florida, as an adult, that I finally got to pursue my love for leather. Frustrated with my crude tools and techniques, I found help from master leather crafter Richard Kline. His love for the art inspired me more than ever. After taking the basic leather classes, I would go back week after week to learn more, or as we used to kid "get my leather fix". With the help of my artist wife, Debra, we have developed a lot of our own designs and patterns. I can only pray that God will grant me a life long enough to complete at least half of my many ideas.
